Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¾ teaspoon cinnamon
Wet Ingredients
- ¾ cup milk
- 2 large eggs
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 to 3 tablespoons milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring (optional)
- Sprinkles or other toppings (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven and prepare pan. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a donut pan with non-stick cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Mix dry ingredients. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt until evenly combined.
- Mix wet ingredients. In a separate bowl, whisk the eggs and granulated sugar together, then add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract; whisk until well combined.
- Combine wet and dry. Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients and gently stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix to keep the batter light.
- Fill the donut pan. Spoon the batter into a piping bag or a resealable plastic bag with a corner cut off, then pipe into the prepared donut pan cavities, filling each about two-thirds full.
- Bake the donuts. Bake for 11 to 14 minutes or until the donuts are lightly golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. The donuts should have sprung up.
- Cool the donuts. Remove the donuts from the oven and allow them to cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Prepare the glaze. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Adjust milk quantity to achieve desired glaze consistency.
- Add color and glaze donuts. If desired, add food coloring to the glaze and dip the cooled donuts into the glaze, letting excess drip off.
- Add toppings. Optionally, decorate glazed donuts with sprinkles or other toppings.
- Set the glaze. Let the glaze set for a few minutes to firm up before serving.
- Serve and enjoy. Enjoy your freshly baked and beautifully glazed donuts!
Notes
- Do not overmix the batter to keep the donuts tender and light.
- If you don’t have a piping bag, you can spoon the batter carefully into the pan but piping ensures even distribution.
- Feel free to customize the glaze with different food coloring or extracts like almond or lemon.
- Store leftover donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
- Reheat slightly before glazing for best results if donuts are chilled.
