- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
Spices and Seasonings
- 2 (4 ounce) cans canned green chile peppers, chopped
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ground cayenne pepper to taste
- ground white pepper to taste
Liquids and Beans
- 5 cups chicken broth
- 3 (15 ounce) cans cannellini beans
Cheese and Garnishes
- 2 cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese
- Optional garnishes: cheese, salsa, sour cream, cilantro leaves
- Rolled tortillas, for serving
Instructions
- Prepare ingredients: Gather all the ingredients listed, including ground turkey, onion, garlic, and spices to begin cooking.
- Brown the turkey: In a large pot over medium heat, combine ground turkey, chopped onion, and minced garlic. Cook and stir frequently for about 10 minutes until the turkey is fully browned and the onions are softened.
- Add spices and chiles: Stir in the chopped canned green chile peppers, ground cumin, dried oregano, ground cinnamon, cayenne pepper (to taste), and ground white pepper (to taste). Cook and stir for an additional 5 minutes to allow the spices to release their flavors.
- Add broth and beans: Pour in the chicken broth along with two of the cans of cannellini beans. Stir to combine the ingredients well.
- Puree remaining beans and add cheese: Using a blender or food processor, puree the remaining can of cannellini beans until smooth. Stir this pureed bean mixture into the pot followed by the shredded Monterey Jack cheese to add creaminess and richness to the chili.
- Simmer: Allow the chili to simmer gently for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cheese has fully melted and blended into the soup.
- Serve: Ladle the chili into bowls and garnish as desired with additional cheese, salsa, sour cream, and fresh cilantro leaves. Serve alongside rolled tortillas for a complete and satisfying meal.
Notes
- Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper based on your preferred heat level.
- For a thicker chili, reduce the amount of chicken broth or simmer longer.
- Use fresh cilantro leaves for garnish to add a fresh herbal note to the dish.
- This chili freezes well, so consider making a larger batch for easy future meals.
- Serving with warm tortillas makes the meal more filling and enjoyable.
