Description

Strawberry Muddy Buddies, also known as Puppy Chow, is a delightful snack featuring crispy Chex cereal coated in smooth melted white chocolate and dusted with a sweet blend of powdered freeze-dried strawberries and confectioner's sugar. Perfect for a quick treat or party snack, these fruity and creamy bites are easy to make and irresistibly crunchy.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 4 cups Chex cereal
  • 1/3 cup confectioner's sugar
  • 0.8 ounces freeze-dried strawberries

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup white chocolate chips (or melting wafers)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cereal: In a large bowl, add 4 cups of Chex cereal and set aside to get ready for coating.
  2. Melt the Chocolate: Place 1 cup of white chocolate chips in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds, then stir. Continue microwaving in additional 30-second increments, stirring each time, until the chocolate is fully melted and smooth.
  3. Coat the Cereal: Pour the melted white chocolate over the bowl of cereal and stir gently but thoroughly, ensuring each piece is coated without breaking the cereal.
  4. Prepare the Strawberry Powder: Using a spice grinder or food processor, grind 0.8 ounces of freeze-dried strawberries into a fine powder for an intense strawberry flavor.
  5. Combine Strawberry Powder and Sugar: Add the ground strawberry powder and 1/3 cup confectioner's sugar to a large gallon-size plastic bag. Pour the coated cereal mixture into the bag, seal it, and shake vigorously to evenly coat the cereal pieces with the strawberry-sugar blend.
  6. Set the Coating: Line a baking sheet with parchment or wax paper. Pour the coated cereal onto it in a single layer and refrigerate for 10 to 15 minutes or until the chocolate is fully hardened.
  7. Store: Once set, transfer the Strawberry Muddy Buddies to an airtight container for storage until ready to serve.

Notes

  • If white chocolate chips are not available, melting wafers work just as well.
  • Be careful when stirring the cereal with melted chocolate to prevent breaking the pieces.
  • Grinding the freeze-dried strawberries finely is key to an even coating and strong flavor.
  • Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week.
  • For added texture, consider mixing in chopped nuts or mini chocolate chips after coating.
