Ingredients
Sauce and Beef
- 1 beef bouillon cube
- 1 cup warm water
- ½ cup reduced-sodium soy sauce, or to taste
- ⅓ cup brown sugar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 ½ pounds beef sirloin, cut into 1-inch strips
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
Vegetables and Garnish
- 2 pounds broccoli florets, or to taste
- 2 cups cooked jasmine rice
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Sauce: Crumble the beef bouillon cube into a bowl with warm water and stir until dissolved. Add the soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, and sesame oil, stirring well until the sugar has dissolved completely.
- Combine Beef and Sauce: Place the beef sirloin strips into the slow cooker crock. Pour the prepared sauce mixture over the beef ensuring it is evenly coated.
- Slow Cook the Beef: Cover the slow cooker and cook on Low for 6 to 8 hours or on High for 4 hours, until the beef is tender enough to cut with a spoon.
- Thicken the Sauce: Ladle 2 tablespoons of liquid from the slow cooker into a small bowl and whisk in 2 tablespoons of cornstarch until smooth. Pour this mixture back into the slow cooker and stir thoroughly to combine. Cook on High for about 30 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Steam the Broccoli: Set up a steamer insert in a saucepan filled with water just below the steamer base. Bring the water to a boil. Place broccoli florets into the steamer, cover, and steam until tender, about 2 to 6 minutes depending on your preference.
- Combine Broccoli and Beef: Add the steamed broccoli to the slow cooker and stir to thoroughly coat the broccoli with the sauce.
- Serve: Spoon portions of the beef and broccoli mixture with sauce over cooked jasmine rice. Garnish with sesame seeds if desired.
Notes
- If the sauce isn't thickening enough in the slow cooker, remove it and cook on the stovetop until it reaches the desired thickness, then return it to the slow cooker.
- The amount of broccoli can be adjusted to personal preference.
- Ensure beef is cut into uniform strips for even cooking.
- To keep broccoli crispier, steam for a shorter time.
