Description
A simple and hearty Sheet Pan Sausage and Sweet Potatoes recipe that combines roasted sweet potatoes, onions, garlic, and smoky sausage for an easy, flavorful one-pan meal. This dish is perfect for busy weeknights and requires minimal cleanup.
Ingredients
Vegetables
- 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
- 1 large yellow onion, sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, chopped
Protein
- 16 oz smoked (or pre-cooked) sausage, such as andouille or kielbasa, cut into 1-inch slices
Others
- 2-3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil (or other cooking oil)
- 1-2 teaspoons seasoning of choice (such as salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, or Italian seasoning)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) to prepare for roasting the vegetables and sausage.
- Prepare Vegetables: Place the cubed sweet potatoes, sliced onion, and chopped garlic onto a sheet pan. Drizzle with 2 tablespoons of olive oil and sprinkle with 1-2 teaspoons of your chosen seasoning. Toss well to coat all ingredients evenly and spread them out in a single layer.
- Initial Roasting: Roast the vegetables in the oven for 20 minutes. This step helps soften the sweet potatoes and begin caramelizing the onions and garlic.
- Stir and Continue Roasting: Remove the sheet pan, stir the vegetables thoroughly using a spatula, spread them back out evenly, and return to the oven. Roast for another 15 minutes to further cook and develop flavor.
- Add Sausage: Remove the pan again and stir the vegetables. Nestle the sliced sausage among the vegetables, ensuring that a cut side of each sausage slice has direct contact with the hot sheet pan to promote browning.
- Final Roast: Return the sheet pan to the oven and roast for an additional 10 minutes or until the sausage is browned and heated through. Once done, remove from the oven and serve immediately.
Notes
- You can use any smoked or pre-cooked sausage such as andouille, kielbasa, or smoked bratwurst.
- Seasoning options include salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, or a combination depending on your preference.
- For even cooking, ensure vegetables are spread out evenly and not overcrowded on the sheet pan.
- Use a metal spatula to stir and spread ingredients between roasting intervals for best results.
