Description

This Sheet Pan Nacho recipe offers a quick, delicious, and crowd-pleasing meal perfect for any casual gathering. Ground beef seasoned with chili powder and cumin is layered with tortilla chips, black beans, and melted cheddar cheese, then topped with fresh salsa, sour cream, scallions, jalapeños, and ripe avocados for a flavorful and satisfying dish.

Ingredients

Meat and Seasonings

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

Main Ingredients

  • 1 (12 ounce) bag tortilla chips
  • 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Toppings

  • 1 cup prepared salsa
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 4 scallions, thinly sliced
  • 1 jalapeño, thinly sliced (optional)
  • 2 small avocados, peeled and diced
  • Lime wedges (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare baking sheet: Preheat your oven to 425˚F (218˚C) and line a rimmed baking sheet with foil to make cleanup easy and ensure even cooking.
  2. Cook the ground beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook while breaking it up with a fork, for about 5 to 7 minutes until it is mostly cooked with just a hint of pink remaining. Add chili powder, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper, and continue cooking for another 1 to 2 minutes until the beef is fully cooked and fragrant. Remove from heat.
  3. Assemble nachos on the sheet pan: Spread the tortilla chips in a single layer evenly over the prepared baking sheet. Layer the cooked ground beef evenly on top, followed by the drained and rinsed black beans, then sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese generously over everything.
  4. Bake the nachos: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 5 to 7 minutes, or until the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
  5. Add toppings and serve: Remove the nachos from the oven and let them cool slightly. Spoon the prepared salsa and sour cream evenly over the top. Scatter the thinly sliced scallions and jalapeño slices (if using) across the nachos, then add the diced avocado. Serve with fresh lime wedges to squeeze over just before eating for a fresh burst of flavor.

Notes

  • For extra spice, add more jalapeño or a dash of hot sauce with the salsa.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef for a leaner option.
  • Black beans can be replaced with pinto beans or omitted for a simpler version.
  • Use gluten-free tortilla chips to make the recipe gluten-free.
  • Prepare all toppings before baking to ensure quick assembly after baking.
