Delicious homemade pepperoni rolls featuring soft bread dough filled with pepperoni, mozzarella cheese, and Italian seasoning, baked to golden perfection. These savory rolls make a perfect appetizer or snack, ready in under 30 minutes.
Ingredients
Dough and Filling
- 16 ounces frozen bread dough, thawed (thaw according to package directions)
- 16 slices pepperoni (divided use)
- 4 slices mozzarella cheese, cut into 4ths (divided use)
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning (divided use)
- 1 large egg, well beaten
- Splash of water
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside for the prepared rolls.
- Divide Dough: Place the thawed bread dough onto a clean work surface and cut it into 8 equal pieces.
- Shape Dough: Flatten each piece of dough to about a 4x4-inch diameter using your hands.
- Add Pepperoni: Place 2 slices of pepperoni in the center of each flattened dough piece, adding more if desired for extra flavor.
- Add Cheese: Top the pepperoni with 2 pieces of the cut mozzarella cheese per dough piece.
- Season: Sprinkle each with a portion of the Italian seasoning according to your taste.
- Roll the Dough: Fold the two outer edges over the filling and tightly roll up the dough, pinching the seams to seal securely.
- Arrange Rolls: Place each roll seam side down on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them so they do not touch.
- Apply Egg Wash: In a small bowl, whisk together the beaten egg and a splash of water. Lightly brush the tops of each roll with the egg wash for a golden finish.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown.
- Cool and Serve: Let the pepperoni rolls cool on the tray for about 5 minutes before serving. Serve with pizza sauce or marinara sauce if desired.
Notes
- Ensure the bread dough is fully thawed for easier handling and better texture.
- Feel free to customize the amount of pepperoni and cheese based on your preference.
- These rolls are best served warm for optimal flavor and melty cheese.
- You can store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the oven for the best texture.
- Optional: Add some garlic powder or crushed red pepper for extra spice.
