Ingredients
Fruit and Liquid
- 4 cups fresh ripe strawberries, sliced
- 8 cups cold water, divided
- 5 cups ice for serving, or as needed
- 1 lime, cut into 8 wedges
Sweetener
- 1 cup white sugar
Garnish
- 8 fresh mint sprigs
Instructions
- Prepare the Strawberry Mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the sliced fresh strawberries, white sugar, and 1 cup of cold water. Mix well to dissolve the sugar. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 4 hours to allow the flavors to meld and the strawberries to macerate.
- Blend the Mixture: After chilling, pour the strawberry mixture into a blender. Blend on high speed until the mixture becomes smooth and all strawberries are pureed.
- Strain the Juice: Pour the blended strawberry mixture through a fine wire mesh strainer set over a large bowl to remove seeds and pulp. Discard the solids, keeping only the smooth strawberry juice.
- Combine with Water: Stir the remaining 7 cups of cold water into the strained strawberry juice until well blended. This dilutes the concentrate to a perfect refreshing level.
- Serve the Agua Fresca: Fill glasses with ice cubes. Pour the strawberry agua fresca over the ice. Garnish each glass with lime wedges and fresh mint sprigs for added zest and aroma.
Notes
- If not serving immediately, refrigerate the prepared strawberry agua fresca for several hours to keep it chilled and fresh.
- You can adjust the sugar quantity to your taste depending on the sweetness of the strawberries.
- For a sparkling variation, replace some of the cold water with carbonated water just before serving.
- Use ripe, fresh strawberries for the best flavor and natural sweetness.
