Description

A rich and creamy keto hot chocolate recipe that uses unsweetened almond milk and sugar-free chocolate to create a low-carb, deliciously comforting beverage. Perfect for a quick and satisfying treat with options to make it ultra-creamy using heavy cream.

Ingredients

Liquid Base

  • 1 cup Unsweetened Almond Milk (or 1/2 cup heavy cream + 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk for a rich hot chocolate)

Chocolate & Flavorings

  • 1 tablespoon Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
  • 1-2 tablespoons Granulated Sweetener (adjust to taste)
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Sugar-Free Chocolate Chips (20g, 0.7oz) or 90% chocolate
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon (optional)

Toppings

  • 1 teaspoon Cocoa Nibs (or sugar-free shaved chocolate)
  • 1 tablespoon Unsweetened Whipped Coconut Cream (or heavy cream)
  • 1/4 teaspoon Unsweetened Cocoa Powder

Instructions

  1. Heat the Milk: In a small saucepan over medium heat, simmer the unsweetened almond milk, or a mixture of 50% heavy cream and 50% almond milk for a creamier hot chocolate. Heat for 1-2 minutes until bubbles form on the side of the saucepan but do not boil.
  2. Add Chocolate and Sweetener: Remove the saucepan from heat and whisk in the unsweetened cocoa powder, granulated sugar-free sweetener, sugar-free chocolate chips, and optional ground cinnamon. Stir until the chocolate chips have completely melted and the mixture is smooth.
  3. Serve: Pour the hot chocolate into a cup immediately. Top with unsweetened whipped coconut cream or heavy cream, sprinkle with cocoa nibs or sugar-free shaved chocolate, and dust lightly with unsweetened cocoa powder. Serve warm and enjoy.

Notes

  • Adjust sweetener quantity to taste depending on your preferred sweetness level and the sugar content of your chocolate chips.
  • For a richer texture, use 1/2 cup heavy cream combined with 1/2 cup almond milk.
  • Make sure to stir continuously when adding the chocolate chips to avoid burning or clumping.
  • This recipe is a single serving but can be easily scaled up for more portions.
  • The cocoa nibs add a nice crunch and extra depth of chocolate flavor but can be omitted if desired.
