Description

This Hot Honey Shrimp recipe is a quick and flavorful seafood dish featuring seared shrimp glazed with a sweet and spicy hot honey sauce. Perfect for a fast weeknight dinner, it combines a delightful blend of heat, sweetness, and citrusy brightness, making it ideal to serve over rice, with veggies, or in tortillas with guacamole.

Ingredients

Shrimp

  • 1 lb uncooked shrimp, peeled and deveined (tails on or off, your choice)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (or garlic herb butter or sesame oil)

Hot Honey Sauce

  • 3 tbsp hot honey
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce (use gluten-free tamari for gluten-free option)
  • 1 clove garlic, minced (or ¼ tsp garlic powder)
  • 1 tbsp lime juice (from ½ lime)

For Garnish and Serving

  • Chopped scallions or cilantro
  • Rice and veggies, or tortillas and guacamole for serving

Instructions

  1. Season the Shrimp: Lightly season the shrimp with salt and pepper to enhance their natural flavor.
  2. Make the Hot Honey Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together hot honey, soy sauce, minced garlic, and fresh lime juice until well combined.
  3. Preheat the Skillet: Heat a large skillet over high heat and add olive oil (or your choice of garlic herb butter or sesame oil) to coat the pan.
  4. Sear the Shrimp: Place the shrimp in the hot skillet and sear without moving them for 1 minute, allowing a golden crust to form on one side.
  5. Cook with Sauce: Pour the hot honey sauce over the shrimp, flip each shrimp, and cook for another minute or until they are fully cooked through and nicely glazed.
  6. Finish the Dish: Remove shrimp from heat. Optionally simmer the remaining sauce in the skillet for an additional minute to thicken it.
  7. Serve: Plate the shrimp and drizzle with the thickened sauce. Garnish with chopped scallions or cilantro and an extra drizzle of hot honey if desired. Serve alongside rice and veggies or wrapped in tortillas with guacamole.

Notes

  • For a gluten-free version, substitute regular soy sauce with tamari or a gluten-free soy sauce alternative.
  • Tails can be left on for presentation and easier handling or removed for convenience.
  • Adjust the amount of hot honey to your spice preference.
  • Using lime juice adds a nice zest, but you can adjust acidity with lemon juice if preferred.
  • Garlic powder can be used if fresh garlic is not available.
