Description

These Grilled Mediterranean Beef Kebabs are a flavorful and vibrant dish featuring tender sirloin steak marinated in a zesty blend of garlic, rosemary, lemon, and olive oil. Grilled alongside sweet red peppers and red onions, these kebabs deliver a perfect balance of smoky, savory, and fresh flavors, ideal for a hearty dinner or festive outdoor meal.

Ingredients

Marinade Ingredients

  • 1 Large Onion (roughly chopped)
  • 1/4 Cup Water
  • 1/3 Cup Olive Oil
  • 6 Cloves Garlic
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce (gluten-free if desired)
  • 2 Teaspoons Dried Rosemary
  • 1 Lemon (zested and juiced)
  • 2 Teaspoons Kosher Salt
  • 1 Teaspoon Ground Black Pepper

Main Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 Pounds Sirloin Steak (cut into 1 1/2 inch cubes)
  • 2 Red Peppers (seeds removed and cubed)
  • 2 Red Onions (peeled and cubed)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Marinade: Add the roughly chopped onion, water, olive oil, garlic cloves, Worcestershire sauce, dried rosemary, lemon zest and juice, kosher salt, and ground black pepper to a blender. Blend until almost smooth and taste to adjust salt and pepper as needed. Set aside the marinade.
  2. Cut Steak: Cut the sirloin steak into 1 1/2 inch cubes and place them in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Chop Peppers and Onions: Cube the red peppers and peel and cube the red onions, then add them to the bowl with the steak cubes.
  4. Add Marinade: Pour the prepared marinade over the steak and vegetables, then toss everything until fully coated.
  5. Marinate the Mixture: Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 45 minutes, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the meat to tenderize.
  6. Prepare Skewers: Soak wooden skewers in cold water for at least 30 minutes before grilling to prevent burning.
  7. Assemble Kebabs: Thread the marinated beef cubes, red onions, and red peppers alternately onto the soaked skewers until all ingredients are used.
  8. Preheat Grill: Heat your grill to a high temperature, about 500°F (260°C), to ensure a good sear on the kebabs.
  9. Grill Kebabs: Place the kebabs on the hot grill and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, turning carefully to achieve even cooking. Grill until the steak reaches your preferred level of doneness.
  10. Serve and Enjoy: Remove kebabs from the grill, serve immediately, optionally alongside labneh or your favorite side dish, and enjoy your flavorful Mediterranean-inspired meal.

Notes

  • Soaking wooden skewers in water prevents them from burning on the grill.
  • Marinating overnight will intensify the flavors and make the meat more tender.
  • Use gluten-free Worcestershire sauce to keep the recipe gluten-free.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste before marinating.
  • Serve with Mediterranean sides like labneh, pita bread, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
