Ingredients
Spice Mix
- 3 teaspoons salt (or more to taste)
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 2 teaspoons onion powder
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
- 2 teaspoons paprika
Steak and Potatoes
- 2 pounds cubed steak (like sirloin or NY Strip)
- 2 pounds Yukon gold potatoes (peeled and cubed into small bite-sized pieces)
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon Browning sauce (optional, for color)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
Garlic Herb Butter
- 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)
- 2 tablespoons parsley (chopped)
- 2 tablespoons minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon salt
Garnishes
- Parsley (for garnish)
- Red pepper flakes (for garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare the Spice Mix: In a small bowl, combine 3 teaspoons salt, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, and paprika. Divide this mixture evenly into two equal portions and set aside for later use.
- Make the Garlic Herb Butter: In another small bowl, mix the softened butter with minced garlic and chopped parsley until well combined. Set this garlic herb butter aside.
- Season the Steak: In a large bowl, toss the cubed steak with Worcestershire sauce, optional browning sauce for color, and half of the prepared spice mix. Ensure the steak is evenly coated with the seasoning for maximum flavor.
- Parboil and Season Potatoes: Bring a pot of water to a boil and add the cubed potatoes. Parboil them for 5 to 6 minutes until they just start to soften. Drain, let them cool slightly, then season with the remaining half of the spice mix and 1 tablespoon olive oil. Toss well to coat.
- Sear the Steak: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Once hot, sear the steak cubes for 5 to 7 minutes, turning occasionally, until they develop a nice brown crust on all sides. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
- Cook the Potatoes: In the same skillet, add the parboiled and seasoned potatoes. Cook over medium-high heat for 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are golden brown and tender when pierced with a fork.
- Combine and Add Butter: Return the seared steak to the skillet with the potatoes. Stir in the garlic herb butter, tossing everything together so the steak and potatoes absorb all the buttery, garlicky flavors.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle red pepper flakes and chopped parsley over the dish for an extra pop of flavor and color. Serve hot and enjoy your garlic butter steak and potatoes.
Notes
- Parboiling the potatoes helps them cook faster and ensures a fluffy interior with crispy exterior when sautéed.
- Browning sauce is optional but adds a richer color to the steak.
- You can adjust the red pepper flakes according to your desired spice level.
- Use fresh garlic and parsley for the best flavor in the herb butter.
- This recipe can be made with other cuts of steak that hold up well to quick searing, like sirloin or NY Strip.
