Ingredients
Sliders
- 9 slider buns
- 3 tbsp butter, divided
- 2 yellow onions, thinly sliced
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp thyme
- 3 tbsp prepared horseradish
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
- 9 ounces thinly sliced roast beef
- 7 ounces thinly sliced provolone cheese
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp finely chopped parsley
Au Jus
- 2 tbsp butter
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups beef broth
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Caramelize Onions: Melt 3 tablespoons of butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions, salt, and thyme. Cook for 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally until onions are soft and caramelized. Add a splash of water if onions appear dry or start to burn.
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the sliders.
- Prepare Horseradish Mayo: In a bowl, mix together the horseradish and mayonnaise. Set aside for assembling the sliders.
- Assemble Sliders: Carefully slice the slider buns horizontally so bottoms remain connected as one piece and tops remain connected as one sheet. Place bottom halves on a baking sheet, layer with roast beef, provolone cheese, then caramelized onions. Spread the horseradish mayo over the top bun sheet and place on the sandwiches.
- Brush with Garlic Butter: Combine melted butter, garlic powder, and chopped parsley in a bowl. Brush this mixture evenly over the top buns.
- Bake Sliders: Cover the sliders with foil and bake for 20 minutes until cheese melts. Remove foil and bake an additional 5 minutes until buns turn golden brown.
- Make Au Jus: In a saucepan, melt butter over medium-high heat. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute. Whisk in flour to form a roux, then gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Simmer for 4-5 minutes until thickened, then season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Serve: Serve the sliders warm alongside the bowl of au jus for dipping.
Notes
- Caramelizing onions can take some time but adds rich flavor—do not rush or increase heat too much.
- Use thinly sliced roast beef for the most tender, easy-to-bite sandwiches.
- You can substitute provolone with mozzarella or Swiss cheese if preferred.
- Be sure to keep the buns connected in one piece for easy assembly and baking.
- Au jus can be made in advance and reheated gently before serving.
- Adjust seasoning in au jus to your taste to enhance the flavor.
