Description

This Festive Cranberry Jalapeño Dip is a vibrant and tangy appetizer perfect for holiday gatherings. Featuring fresh cranberries combined with the mild heat of jalapeño and a creamy, fluffy base of whipped cream cheese and Greek yogurt, this dip balances sweet, tart, and spicy flavors beautifully. It’s easy to prepare in under 30 minutes and offers a refreshing twist to traditional dips, ideal for serving with crackers, chips, or fresh veggies.

Ingredients

Cranberry Salsa

  • 2 cups fresh cranberries (or thawed from frozen)
  • 1 small jalapeño, seeds removed for mild heat, roughly chopped
  • 2 green onions, root-ends trimmed and roughly chopped
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • Zest of 1 lime
  • Juice of 1 lime (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt

Whipped Cream Cheese

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt (2% or whole recommended)
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • ⅓ teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Prep the Cranberry Salsa: Add the cranberries, jalapeños, green onions, cilantro, lime zest, lime juice, honey, and brown sugar to a food processor. Pulse until the mixture is finely chopped but not pureed. Aim for small flecks instead of a mushy texture to preserve some chunkiness.
  2. Chill the Salsa: Transfer the cranberry salsa to a bowl and refrigerate for at least 15-20 minutes, or up to 24 hours, to allow flavors to meld and develop.
  3. Drain Excess Liquid: After resting, if the salsa appears watery, gently strain off excess liquid using a fine-mesh sieve to avoid sogginess in the dip.
  4. Whip the Cream Cheese Mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, Greek yogurt, honey, and kosher salt. Using a hand mixer or food processor, whip the mixture until it becomes smooth, fluffy, and light, about 1 minute.
  5. Assemble the Dip: Spread the whipped cream cheese mixture evenly into a shallow serving bowl or plate to create a base layer.
  6. Finish and Serve: Spoon the chilled cranberry salsa over the whipped cream cheese base, layering or swirling to create a festive effect. Optionally, top with a drizzle of honey or olive oil, sprinkle with flaky sea salt, or add extra lime zest for garnish. Serve immediately with crackers, chips, or fresh vegetables.

Notes

  • For milder heat, remove all seeds and membranes from the jalapeño. For more spice, include some seeds or use a fresher jalapeño.
  • The dip can be prepared a day in advance. Keep salsa and whipped cheese separate until ready to serve.
  • If using frozen cranberries, thaw completely and drain any excess water.
  • Substitute honey with maple syrup for a vegan-friendly option, and use vegan cream cheese and yogurt to adapt the recipe accordingly.
  • To make the dip more festive, garnish with pomegranate arils or chopped nuts for added texture.
  • Serve chilled or at room temperature for best flavor.
