Delicious and tender Crockpot Dr. Pepper Chicken Wings slow-cooked in a sweet and tangy sauce made from Dr. Pepper, brown sugar, garlic, BBQ sauce, and a hint of red pepper flakes. Perfectly cooked wings that can be optionally broiled for a sticky, glazed finish and garnished with fresh parsley for a flavorful appetizer or meal.
Ingredients
Chicken Wings
- 4 pounds frozen chicken wings
Sauce
- 1 cup Dr. Pepper
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup BBQ sauce
- 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
Garnish (Optional)
- Parsley, for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the wings: Place the frozen chicken wings directly into your crockpot, arranging them evenly to allow for even cooking.
- Make the sauce: In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar, BBQ sauce, Dr. Pepper, minced garlic, red pepper flakes, and cornstarch. Stir well to ensure the cornstarch is fully incorporated without lumps.
- Add sauce to wings: Reserve ¼ cup of the sauce in a separate bowl for later use. Pour the remaining sauce evenly over the chicken wings in the crockpot.
- Cook the wings: Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours or on high for 3-4 hours until the wings are tender and fully cooked through.
- Broil for glaze (optional): For a sticky, caramelized finish, place the cooked wings on a foil-lined baking sheet. Brush them with the reserved sauce and broil under high heat for 3-5 minutes, watching closely to avoid burning, until the sauce is bubbly and glossy.
- Garnish and serve: Sprinkle the wings with freshly chopped parsley for color and added flavor. Serve immediately and enjoy your flavorful wings!
Notes
- Using frozen wings is convenient, but make sure they reach an internal temperature of 165°F for safety.
- Broiling is optional but highly recommended for added texture and flavor.
- You can adjust the amount of red pepper flakes to control the spice level.
- For thicker sauce, mix cornstarch with cold liquid before adding to avoid clumps.
- Dr. Pepper adds a unique sweetness and caramel notes, but cola or root beer can be substituted if needed.
