Description
Creamy Garlic Shrimp is a quick and delicious skillet recipe featuring succulent jumbo shrimp cooked in a rich, garlic-infused creamy sauce with a hint of white wine and Italian seasoning, topped with melted white cheddar cheese and fresh parsley. Perfect for a comforting dinner served over pasta, rice, or mashed potatoes.
Ingredients
Shrimp
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 2 pounds jumbo shrimp, peeled, deveined, and tails removed
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
Creamy Sauce
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons white wine
- 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1/2 cup white cheddar cheese, shredded (or grated Parmesan cheese)
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped
Instructions
- Heat and Sear Shrimp: Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat for 2 minutes, until the oil is hot and sizzling. Add the shrimp and sear for 2-3 minutes on each side until they turn pink and are fully cooked through. Season with salt and pepper. Remove shrimp and set aside on a plate.
- Sauté Garlic: In the same skillet, add butter and minced garlic. Sauté for about one minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
- Add Wine and Combine: Pour in the white wine and stir well to combine with the butter and garlic. Cook for about one minute to let the alcohol evaporate and flavors meld.
- Make Cream Sauce: Add the heavy cream, Italian seasoning, and shredded white cheddar cheese to the skillet. Stir continuously and bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Reduce heat to medium and stir until the sauce thickens to your desired consistency.
- Toss Shrimp in Sauce: Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and toss thoroughly to coat them in the creamy sauce.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle freshly chopped parsley on top and serve immediately. This creamy garlic shrimp pairs wonderfully with pasta, rice, or mashed potatoes.
Notes
- For an extra kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes when sautéing the garlic.
- Substitute white cheddar with Parmesan for a sharper flavor.
- Use dry white wine like Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio for best results.
- Do not overcook shrimp as they can become tough and rubbery.
- Leftover creamy shrimp can be refrigerated for up to 2 days and reheated gently on stovetop.
