Description

Cowboy Butter Steak Sliders are savory mini sandwiches featuring tender, juicy sirloin or ribeye steak slices layered with melted cheese and a zesty homemade cowboy butter sauce. Perfect for appetizers or main courses, these sliders combine bold flavors with a buttery garlic sauce that enhances the steak’s richness.

Ingredients

Steak and Seasoning

  • 1 ½ lbs. boneless sirloin or ribeye steak
  • 1 tbsp. salt
  • 1 tbsp. pepper
  • 2 tbsp. vegetable oil

Cowboy Butter Sauce

  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 4 tbsp. minced garlic
  • 2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp. Dijon mustard
  • 1 tsp. paprika
  • 1 tsp. cayenne pepper
  • 2 tbsp. fresh parsley
  • 1 tsp. red pepper flakes

Slider Assembly

  • 1 onion, diced
  • 1 pack Brioche or King's Hawaiian slider buns
  • 12 slices cheese of choice

Instructions

  1. Prepare and Season the Steak: Trim excess fat from the steak. Rub 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil on one side of the steak and 1 tablespoon on the other. Then sprinkle the steak evenly with salt and pepper, rubbing it in well. Set aside for seasoning to absorb.
  2. Make Cowboy Butter Sauce: In a large saucepan over medium-low heat, melt the unsalted butter. Add minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, paprika, cayenne pepper, fresh parsley, red pepper flakes, and diced onions. Stir well and cook the onions for 2-3 minutes until softened. Transfer the sauce to a bowl and set aside.
  3. Cook the Steak: Cook the steak to your preferred doneness either in a pan or on the grill. After cooking, baste both sides with some of the cowboy butter sauce, then let the steak rest for 10 minutes to retain its juices.
  4. Slice Steak Thinly: After resting, slice the steak very thinly against the grain to ensure tenderness and easy slider assembly.
  5. Prepare Slider Buns: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Separate the slider buns and place them cut side up on the baking sheet. Spread some cowboy butter sauce on the bottom buns and add a slice of cheese on each.
  6. Assemble Sliders: Evenly distribute thin steak slices over the cheese on the bottom buns. Add another layer of cheese on top of the steak. Spread cowboy butter sauce on the top buns and place them on the sliders. Baste the tops of the sliders with the remaining cowboy butter sauce.
  7. Broil to Melt Cheese: Place the baking sheet under the oven broiler for 1-2 minutes or until the cheese has melted and bubbly. Watch closely to prevent burning.
  8. Serve: Remove from the oven and serve immediately for best flavor and texture. Enjoy your juicy and flavorful Cowboy Butter Steak Sliders!

Notes

  • Use tender cuts like ribeye or sirloin steak for the best flavor and texture.
  • Let the steak rest for at least 10 minutes after cooking to retain its juices and tenderness.
  • Use a meat thermometer to cook steak to your preferred doneness: 125°F for rare, 135°F for medium-rare, 145°F for medium, 150°F for medium-well, 160°F for well-done.
  • Ration the cowboy butter sauce carefully: use it for basting the cooked steak, spreading on bottom buns, spreading on top buns, and basting the assembled sliders before broiling.
  • Keep a close eye during broiling to avoid burning the cheese.
