Description

Decadent Chocolate Orange Truffles featuring dark chocolate and bright orange zest, these smooth and creamy truffles are coated in granulated sugar for a delightful texture. Perfect for gifting or enjoying as an elegant homemade treat, they combine rich chocolate flavor with a refreshing citrus twist.

Ingredients

Truffle Mixture

  • ⅔ cup + 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon fresh orange zest (plus more for optional garnish)
  • 1½ teaspoons pure orange extract
  • 12 ounces dark chocolate chips

Coating

  • ½ cup granulated sugar (for rolling the truffles)

Instructions

  1. Heat the Cream: Add the heavy cream to a medium-sized microwave-safe bowl and heat in the microwave for 1 minute until warm.
  2. Add Orange Flavor: Whisk in the fresh orange zest and pure orange extract to infuse the cream with citrus aroma and taste.
  3. Melt Chocolate: Add the dark chocolate chips to the cream mixture, stirring until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth. If necessary, microwave in 15-second intervals to maintain warmth and ensure full melting.
  4. Chill the Mixture: Cover the bowl and refrigerate for 30 to 35 minutes until the mixture is firm enough to mold into truffles.
  5. Scoop the Truffles: Use a 1 tablespoon cookie scoop or tablespoon to portion out the chilled chocolate mixture.
  6. Roll in Sugar: Roll each portioned truffle in granulated sugar to fully coat, adding texture and sweetness.
  7. Set and Chill: Place the coated truffles on a lined baking sheet and chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve, allowing them to firm up further.

Notes

  • You can garnish the truffles with additional orange zest for an extra burst of citrus flavor and decorative touch.
  • Use good quality dark chocolate for best flavor and texture in the truffles.
  • Store the truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator; consume within one week for optimal freshness.
  • If the truffle mixture becomes too firm to scoop, let it sit at room temperature for a few minutes to soften slightly.
