Perfect for a family dinner, it combines simple ingredients with a delicious twist for a satisfying meal.
Ingredients
For the Crescent Rolls
- 8 oz. crescent roll dough, refrigerated
- 1 cup cooked and diced chicken
- 1/4 cup shredded Mexican cheese blend
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp dried thyme
For the Sauce
- 8 oz. can condensed cream of chicken soup
- 3/4 cup milk
- 3/4 cup shredded Mexican cheese blend (or any shredded cheese)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it reaches the correct temperature for baking the casserole.
- Prepare Baking Dish: Grease an 8-inch baking dish with cooking oil to prevent sticking.
- Mix Chicken Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the cooked and diced chicken with 1/4 cup of shredded cheese, garlic powder, and dried thyme to create the flavorful filling.
- Prepare Crescent Roll Dough: Unroll the refrigerated crescent roll dough and separate it into individual triangles.
- Fill and Roll Crescents: Place the chicken mixture on the wider end of each crescent roll triangle and roll them up carefully, tucking in the filling to keep it secure.
- Arrange in Baking Dish: Place the rolled crescents seam side down in the prepared baking dish, spacing them slightly apart.
- Initial Bake: Bake the crescent rolls in the preheated oven for 13 minutes until they start to turn golden.
- Make Cheese Sauce: Meanwhile, combine the condensed cream of chicken soup and milk in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the remaining 3/4 cup of shredded cheese until melted and smooth.
- Add Sauce to Rolls: Pour the cheese sauce over the crescent rolls in the baking dish until it reaches about halfway up the rolls.
- Final Bake: Return the baking dish to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes, allowing the rolls to finish cooking and the sauce to thicken.
- Serve: Once baked, serve the crescent roll casserole warm, optionally alongside cooked peas or your favorite vegetables for a complete meal.
Notes
- You can substitute the chicken with turkey or leftover rotisserie chicken for convenience.
- Use any cheese blend you prefer; cheddar or Monterey Jack work well.
- For a richer sauce, add a splash of heavy cream when making the cheese sauce.
- Make sure not to overfill the crescent rolls to prevent the filling from leaking out.
- Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven.
