Description
Cheddar Bay Hamburger Casserole is a comforting and hearty dish featuring seasoned ground beef mixed with vegetables and topped with flaky biscuit dough and melted cheddar cheese. It’s a cozy, family-friendly casserole perfect for weeknight dinners, combining rich flavors and a delightful texture contrast between the savory meat base and golden biscuit topping.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup onion, finely chopped
- 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn)
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 can (16.3 ounces) refrigerated flaky biscuit dough
Instructions
- Cook the Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain any excess fat to keep the dish from becoming greasy.
- Sauté Onions and Vegetables: Add the finely chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened and translucent. Stir in the frozen mixed vegetables and continue cooking for another 2–3 minutes to allow the vegetables to heat through.
- Add Beef Broth and Cheese: Pour in 1 cup of beef broth and let the mixture simmer for 5 minutes to meld the flavors. Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until it’s fully melted and the mixture is creamy.
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Biscuits: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Take the biscuit dough and cut each biscuit into quarters to create smaller pieces for the topping.
- Assemble the Casserole: Grease a 9×13-inch casserole dish lightly. Pour the beef mixture evenly into the dish. Arrange the biscuit quarters evenly over the top of the beef mixture, covering the surface but allowing some gaps for browning.
- Bake the Casserole: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until the biscuit pieces are puffed up and golden brown. Remove from oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute frozen mixed vegetables with fresh veggies for a fresher taste.
- For extra flavor, sprinkle a bit of garlic powder or paprika into the ground beef as it cooks.
- Make sure to drain excess fat thoroughly to avoid a greasy casserole.
- The biscuit topping should be golden and fully cooked before removing from the oven to ensure it’s not doughy inside.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven for best results.
