Description

This refreshing Butterfly Pea Flower Matcha Lemonade is a vibrant, color-changing layered drink perfect for hot days or special occasions. Made by combining sweet lemonade, floral butterfly pea flower tea, and energized matcha, it transitions beautifully from blue to purple when stirred, offering a unique visual experience alongside a zesty, lightly sweet taste.

Ingredients

Lemonade Ingredients

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice (from 1 lemon)

Butterfly Pea Flower Tea Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons butterfly pea flowers
  • 1 cup water

Matcha Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons matcha powder
  • 1 cup cold water

Instructions

  1. Make Lemonade: In a saucepan, combine 1 cup of water and 1/2 cup of sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer. Stir until the sugar is fully dissolved, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and allow it to cool. Once cooled, stir in 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice from one lemon.
  2. Make Butterfly Pea Flower Tea: Steep 2 teaspoons of butterfly pea flowers in 1 cup of hot water for 3 to 5 minutes, depending on desired color intensity. The longer the steeping time, the deeper the blue hue. Strain out the flowers and let the tea cool to room temperature.
  3. Make Matcha: In a wide-mouth water bottle or jar, add 2 teaspoons of matcha powder followed by 1 cup of cold water. Secure the lid tightly and shake vigorously for about 10 seconds until the matcha is well combined and frothy.
  4. Assemble Drink: Fill two glass cups with ice. Pour approximately one-third of the butterfly pea flower tea into each glass. Next, add the lemonade until it fills about two-thirds of the cup. Finally, top each drink with the shaken matcha layer. Before drinking, stir well to combine the layers and watch the drink color change from blue to purple.

Notes

  • The recipe makes more lemonade than needed; store the leftover lemonade in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • Both the lemonade and butterfly pea flower tea can be prepared ahead of time and refrigerated separately until ready to use.
  • Use high-quality matcha powder for the best flavor and vibrant color.
  • Adjust sweetness by modifying the sugar amount in the lemonade to your taste preference.
