Description

Brownie Batter Puppy Chow is a deliciously indulgent snack mix combining the rich flavors of brownie mix, melted chocolate, creamy peanut butter, and crunchy Rice Chex cereal. This no-bake treat is quick to prepare, requiring only a few simple ingredients and microwave heating, perfect for satisfying sweet cravings or sharing at gatherings.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups brownie mix
  • 7 cups Rice Chex cereal

Chocolate Mixture

  • 1¼ cup dark chocolate chips
  • ⅓ cup creamy peanut butter
  • 3 tablespoons salted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Heat the Brownie Mix: Place the brownie mix in a microwave-safe bowl and heat in 30-second increments, stirring well between each heating, for 3-5 minutes or until the mixture reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit using a digital thermometer. Set aside once ready.
  2. Melt Chocolate Mixture: In a second large microwave-safe bowl, combine the dark chocolate chips, creamy peanut butter, and salted butter. Microwave for 60 seconds, then stir well. Heat further in 15-second increments if needed until the mixture is smooth and completely melted.
  3. Add Vanilla: Stir the vanilla extract into the melted chocolate mixture until fully incorporated.
  4. Coat the Cereal: Gently fold in the Rice Chex cereal until all pieces are evenly coated with the chocolate mixture, taking care not to crush the cereal.
  5. Layer Brownie Mix and Chex: Place one-third of the heat-treated brownie mix into a large sealable plastic bag, add half of the coated Chex mixture, then repeat with another third of the brownie mix and the remaining Chex mixture. Finally, pour the remaining brownie mix on top.
  6. Shake to Coat: Seal the bag securely and shake well until all the Chex pieces are completely coated with the brownie mix.
  7. Cool and Serve: Spread the coated Chex mixture evenly on a large sheet of aluminum foil or parchment paper. Allow the puppy chow to cool entirely before serving to ensure coating sets properly.

Notes

  • Ensure the brownie mix reaches 165°F for food safety as it is not baked.
  • Handle the Rice Chex gently when folding to avoid breaking the cereal.
  • Store the finished puppy chow in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
  • Try substituting dark chocolate chips with semi-sweet chocolate chips if preferred.
  • This puppy chow can be made ahead and stored for up to one week at room temperature.
