Ingredients
Bread & Butter
- 4 sturdy slices sourdough bread (avoid soft bread)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- ⅓ cup Sauvignon Blanc
Sandwich Filling
- 8 ounces chilled brie (rind removed), thinly sliced
- 1 medium honeycrisp apple, thinly sliced
- ½ cup whole berry cranberry sauce
Instructions
- Prepare the bread: Butter one side of each slice of sourdough bread evenly, then brush the other side with Sauvignon Blanc to add a subtle fruity flavor and help the bread toast nicely.
- Heat the skillet: Place a large skillet over medium-high heat until hot, then place two slices of bread butter-side down onto the skillet to start toasting.
- Add the fillings: On top of each bread slice in the skillet, layer thin slices of brie cheese, honeycrisp apple slices, and whole berry cranberry sauce. These ingredients add creamy, sweet, and tangy flavor layers.
- Assemble the sandwiches: Place the remaining two slices of bread on top of the fillings, butter-side up, completing the sandwich. Cover the skillet with a lid to help the cheese melt evenly.
- Toast the sandwiches: Reduce the heat to medium to prevent burning. Keep the lid on and let the sandwiches toast until the cheese starts to melt and the bread underneath becomes golden brown.
- Flip and finish: Remove the lid, carefully check the underside of the sandwiches for a golden brown color, then flip them gently using a spatula. Toast the other side until it is also golden brown and the cheese is fully melted.
- Serve immediately: Remove the sandwiches from the skillet and serve hot, ideally paired with a glass of chilled Sauvignon Blanc for an enhanced tasting experience.
Notes
- Use sturdy sourdough bread to prevent sogginess and ensure a crispy crust.
- Remove the rind from the brie for a smoother melted texture.
- Brush the bread with Sauvignon Blanc on one side to add depth and flavor.
- Use a lid during initial toasting to help the cheese melt without burning the bread.
- Serve immediately for best texture and flavor.
