Ingredients
Bread Bowls
- 6 round (5-6 inches) rolls, like white Kaiser rolls
- 1 cup (2 sticks or 227g) butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 tablespoon parsley, minced
Spaghetti
- 4 ounces (¼ of a 16-ounce box) spaghetti noodles, cooked according to package directions
- 24 ounces spaghetti sauce
- 1 pound ground beef
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded and divided
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a sheet pan with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Cook Spaghetti and Meat Sauce: In a large skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until no longer pink. Drain any excess fat. Stir in the spaghetti sauce, salt, and pepper to taste. Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer gently for 10 minutes.
- Add Noodles: Add the cooked spaghetti noodles to the skillet and toss to coat thoroughly with the sauce. Once combined, cover the pan to keep the spaghetti warm.
- Make Garlic Butter: In a medium bowl, combine the melted butter with the minced garlic, kosher salt, and minced parsley. Stir well to evenly distribute the flavors.
- Prepare Bread Bowls: Cut the tops off each round roll, carefully hollowing out the center but leaving the base intact so the bread bowl holds together. Place the hollowed rolls and their tops on the prepared sheet pan.
- Brush with Garlic Butter: Generously brush the garlic butter mixture on both the inside and outside of each bread bowl and the tops. Use about 2-3 tablespoons per roll to ensure flavorful bread.
- Assemble Bowls: Spoon 1 tablespoon of shredded mozzarella cheese into the bottom of each bread bowl, then fill with approximately ½ cup of the spaghetti mixture. Top again with 1 tablespoon of mozzarella cheese for a cheesy finish.
- Bake: Place the sheet pan in the preheated oven and bake the assembled bread bowls for about 7-10 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese inside is melted and bubbly.
- Garnish and Serve: Remove from oven, sprinkle with additional parsley for garnish if desired, and serve warm and enjoy your hearty bread bowl spaghetti!
Notes
- Use sturdy rolls like Kaiser to prevent sogginess when filling with spaghetti.
- You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or plant-based protein if preferred.
- Make sure to hollow out the rolls carefully, leaving the bottoms intact so the filling doesn't spill out.
- Adjust the amount of garlic butter for more or less flavor according to taste.
- If desired, sprinkle extra mozzarella cheese on top before baking for an extra cheesy crust.
- Leftover bread bowls can be stored in the refrigerator and reheated in the oven for best texture.
