Description

These Big Mac Sliders are a fun, easy-to-make appetizer perfect for game day or any viewing party. Featuring juicy ground chuck baked to perfection, topped with American cheese, pickles, onions, iceberg lettuce, and a homemade Big Mac sauce, all served on sweet Hawaiian rolls. They deliver all the classic Big Mac flavors in a handheld slider size.

Ingredients

Sliders

  • 1 pound ground chuck
  • 3/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • cooking spray
  • 1 (12 ounce) package Hawaiian Sweet Dinner Rolls (such as King's Hawaiian)
  • 1/3 cup Big Mac Sauce (recipe below)
  • 6 (1/2 ounce each) American cheese slices
  • 2/3 cup drained dill pickle chips
  • 1/3 cup finely chopped yellow onion (from 1 small 5 ounce onion)
  • 2 tablespoons (1 ounce) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 1 cup packed shredded iceberg lettuce (from 1 small [1 pound] head)

Big Mac Sauce

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a large-rimmed baking sheet with aluminum foil.
  2. Form beef layer: Press ground chuck into a thin, even 11- x 9-inch rectangle on prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle evenly with kosher salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
  3. Bake beef patty: Bake in preheated oven for about 10 minutes, or until a thermometer inserted into thickest portion registers 140°F to 145°F. This ensures the beef is cooked to medium doneness. Remove from oven.
  4. Drain beef and prepare rolls: Using two large spatulas, transfer the beef rectangle to a cutting board lined with paper towels to absorb excess grease. Discard foil. Line the same baking sheet with new foil and lightly coat with cooking spray.
  5. Prepare rolls: With a serrated bread knife, carefully cut the Hawaiian rolls in half horizontally, keeping the top and bottom halves intact. Place the bottom halves cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Assemble sliders - bottom layer: Spread the Big Mac Sauce evenly over the bottom halves of the rolls.
  7. Add beef and toppings: Place the baked beef patty over the sauce, then evenly distribute the American cheese slices, drained dill pickle chips, and finely chopped yellow onion on top of the beef.
  8. Top and season rolls: Place the top halves of the rolls over the pickles and onions. Brush the tops and sides of the rolls with melted unsalted butter and sprinkle sesame seeds evenly over the tops.
  9. Bake sliders: Return the assembled sliders to the oven and bake until the tops are golden brown and the cheese has melted, about 10 minutes.
  10. Add lettuce and serve: Carefully remove the bun tops, sprinkle shredded iceberg lettuce evenly inside each slider, and replace the tops. Cut sliders into 12 portions for serving. Serve with additional Big Mac Sauce on the side if desired.
  11. Make Big Mac Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, sweet pickle relish, garlic powder, and kosher salt until fully combined. Chill in an airtight container up to 5 days to allow flavors to meld.

Notes

  • For best results, use fresh ground chuck with a good fat content (around 20%) for juicy sliders.
  • The Big Mac Sauce can be prepared ahead and stored refrigerated for up to 5 days.
  • Use a serrated knife to neatly slice the Hawaiian rolls without crushing them.
  • Ensure the beef reaches 140°F to 145°F for safe consumption and optimal juiciness.
  • Brush butter and sesame seeds on the buns to mimic the classic Big Mac bun appearance and flavor.
  • Serve sliders immediately after assembly for best texture, or keep warm in the oven on low heat if needed.
