Ingredients
Salmon
- 1 lb (4 pieces) salmon fillets
Teriyaki Sauce
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/2 cup water (divided: 3/4 for sauce, 1/4 for slurry)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch piece of ginger, grated
- 2 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
Garnish
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
- 1 scallion, thinly sliced
Instructions
- Prepare the Teriyaki Sauce: In a small saucepan, combine the soy sauce, 3/4 of the water, minced garlic, grated ginger, honey, and brown sugar. Place the saucepan over medium heat and whisk the mixture until the sugar dissolves and the sauce begins to thicken.
- Create the Cornstarch Slurry: In a separate bowl, mix the cornstarch with the remaining cold water to form a smooth slurry.
- Thicken the Sauce: Add the cornstarch slurry to the saucepan and continue whisking until the sauce reaches a glossy and thickened consistency, about 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.
- Marinate the Salmon: Place the salmon fillets in a shallow dish or resealable plastic bag. Pour the teriyaki sauce over them, ensuring they are well coated. Seal and refrigerate for at least 15 minutes, up to 1 hour for deeper flavor infusion.
- Preheat the Air Fryer: Prepare your air fryer appliance and preheat it to the suitable temperature for salmon cooking, roughly 375°F (190°C).
- Air Fry the Salmon: Remove the salmon from the marinade and place it in an air fryer-safe dish. Air fry for approximately 12 minutes or until the salmon flakes easily with a fork and is cooked through.
- Glaze the Salmon: For a caramelized finish, brush the reserved teriyaki sauce on the salmon fillets in the last 2-3 minutes of cooking.
- Garnish and Serve: Once cooked, carefully remove the salmon from the air fryer. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and thinly sliced scallions. Serve hot over steamed rice or your preferred sides.
Notes
- For more intense flavor, marinate the salmon for up to an hour.
- Do not overcrowd the air fryer basket to ensure even cooking.
- Adjust cooking time based on the thickness of the salmon fillets and your air fryer model.
- Use low-sodium soy sauce if you want to reduce sodium intake.
- Leftover teriyaki sauce can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and used as a dipping sauce or glaze.
