Ingredients
Pizza Pocket Ingredients
- 1 can Pillsbury pizza dough (or make your own)
- 1/4 cup pizza sauce
- 3/4 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
- 16 pepperoni slices
- 1 egg (optional, for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp water (optional, for egg wash)
Instructions
- Prepare the dough: Roll out your pizza dough on a clean surface and cut it into 8 even squares using a knife or pizza cutter.
- Add pizza sauce: On each square, spoon a generous amount of pizza sauce on one half, spreading it from corner to corner while leaving a slight border around the edges to allow for sealing.
- Top with cheese: Sprinkle about one to two tablespoons of shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce on each square.
- Add pepperoni slices: Place two pepperoni slices evenly on top of the cheese for each square.
- Fold and seal: Fold the side of the dough without sauce over the side with sauce and fillings, forming a pocket. Use a fork to press and crimp the edges firmly, ensuring the filling stays inside during cooking.
- Apply egg wash (optional): In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to make an egg wash. Brush this wash over the top and edges of each pocket to give them a shiny, golden finish when cooked.
- Vent and season: Make a small slit on the top of each pocket to allow steam to escape while cooking. Sprinkle Italian seasoning and an additional pinch of mozzarella cheese on top. Alternatively, you can use salt and parmesan cheese instead of mozzarella for variation.
- Air fry: Place the pizza pockets in the air fryer basket in a single layer. Cook at 370°F for 5 minutes or until the pockets turn a golden brown and the cheese on top is nicely melted and browned.
- Optional finishing touch: Brush the hot pizza pockets with melted butter or olive oil immediately after cooking for extra flavor and crispiness.
- Cool and serve: Allow the pizza pockets to cool for about 5 minutes before serving to avoid burning and to let the fillings set.
Notes
- For a crispier crust, you can preheat the air fryer before adding the pizza pockets.
- If you prefer vegetarian pizza pockets, omit the pepperoni or substitute with vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms.
- Make sure not to overfill the pockets to prevent leakage during cooking.
- Cooking times may vary slightly depending on your air fryer model; monitor the pockets closely near the end of cooking.
- Leftover pockets can be refrigerated and reheated in the air fryer for best texture retention.
