Ingredients
Pickle Preparation
- 1 cup sliced pickles
Breading Mix
- 2 large eggs
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 1 tablespoon hot sauce (e.g., Tabasco)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
Dipping Sauce
- 1/4 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup minced onions (finely minced)
- 1 clove garlic (minced)
- 1 teaspoon dried dill (optional)
Instructions
- Dry the Pickles: Lay down a couple of sheets of paper towels. Arrange the sliced pickles on the paper towels and place more paper towels on top. Let them dry for a few minutes to remove excess moisture, ensuring the coating sticks better.
- Prepare Egg Wash: In a shallow dish, whisk together the eggs, flour, hot sauce, salt, and black pepper until smooth and well combined. This mixture will add flavor and help the breadcrumbs adhere.
- Prepare Breadcrumbs: In another shallow dish, place the panko breadcrumbs ready for coating the pickles.
- Bread the Pickles: Working one at a time, dip each pickle slice into the egg wash, ensuring it is fully coated. Then, coat it thoroughly in the panko breadcrumbs. Transfer the breaded pickles to a baking sheet, arranging them without overlapping.
- Air Fry the Pickles: Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C). Place the breaded pickles in a single layer inside the air fryer basket, leaving space between them for even cooking. Lightly spray the pickles with cooking oil. Air fry for 5 to 7 minutes until the bottoms are golden brown. Carefully flip each pickle, spray again with oil, and air fry for an additional 5 to 7 minutes until golden and crispy all over.
- Make the Dip: In a small bowl, combine sour cream, mayonnaise, salt, black pepper, minced onions, minced garlic, and dried dill if using. Mix well until smooth and flavorful.
- Serve: Serve the crispy air-fried pickles warm alongside the creamy dipping sauce for a delicious appetizer or snack.
Notes
- Ensure the pickles are well dried before breading to prevent soggy coating.
- You can adjust the hot sauce quantity in the egg wash to make the pickles more or less spicy.
- For best results, do not overcrowd the air fryer to allow even crisping.
- Dill in the dip is optional but adds a nice herbal flavor that complements the pickles.
- Use regular or dill pickles based on preference; each lends a distinct flavor.
- Leftover dip can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
